Is there a message log where the startup messages that you see on the screen when it is booting gets logged? I thought I might look in there since it scrolls by so fast before I re-install. Hope springs eternal. I looked in /var/log/messages, but it didn't have anything since red-hat last worked.

Have a look at /var/log/boot.log and /var/log/boot.msg.
