Dual boot on Fedora/Windows || 1st hd=sata 2nd hd=IDE

Hello all,

Luckily Windows loaded by default...... but here is my problem. I have two hard drives... one is SATA (1st hd) and Windows is installed on NTFS with no space left for a new partition. Second harddrive is IDE -- 160 GB capacity... 25 GB for Linux and the rest free space.

By the way ... the 2nd HD is connected to IDE2 as Master

Fedora installed fine on 2nd IDE .. restarted... and GRUB did not load!

How do I fix GRUB to dual boot win / fedora because one drive is SATA and other is IDE.

Ok

I have switched the IDE drive to IDE1 (primary master) and it did not work... I've tried removing the SATA drive but it will only output an error saying insert system disk after "Verifying DMI Pool Data"

Any suggestions?

From your description it sounds like GRUB was not installed on the master boot record of your SATA hard drive. To boot linux on the second hard drive it would be best to install it there. You can do this one of two ways. Perform a reinstall of Fedora and make sure you install GRUB in the correct spot. The second option is to install GRUB directly using the instructions located at their website http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/.

Thanks, but I've solved my problem.

SATA was on hd1... unix on hda

added the following line in GRUB:

title WinXP
hide (hd0,0)
unhide (hd1,0)
rootnoverify (hd1,0)
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
boot

worked and no problems! thanks to that one thread that showed me!
