driver problem... NVidia

In the NVidia_GLX /drivers directory I:

/sbin/modprobe nvidia_drv.o

and get

"modprobe: cant locate module nvdida_drv.o

and when I

"/sbin/insmod nvidia_drv.o

I get

"nvidia_drv.o: couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for."

Doesnt make sense cause Im useing the GLX-1.0.3123.tar and the kernel-1.0.3123.tar drivers with the 2.4.18-17.7.xi386.rpm (kernel and kernel source both installed with a reboot). I installe the "modutils" before installing the kernel.rpm because Linux wouldn't let me install the kernel before having the modultils installed... Ive read all the faqs and install README' s from both NVidia and Red Hat.

Any ideas. I even tried installing the i686 kernel but to no avail...

Im on a 4100 Dell Inspirion with a Geforce 2Go Using RH 7.3 dual boot XP; Ive edited my XF86Config-4 as instructed...

You didn't mention, did you compile the module while running under the new "2.4.18-17" kernel or the old "2.4.18-?".

Just as a sidenote, I am using a Inspiron 8200 with GeForce 2 GO and have it working perfectly. I used the "NVIDIA_kernel-1.0.3123.src.rpm" and the "NVIDIA_GLX-1.0.3123.i386.rpm". using the instructions for these as shown in the README's. I had no problems whatsoever.

I compiled the module while running under the 2.4.18-17.7.xi386.rpm but Im still hung...

How did you install the NVIDIA drivers and kernel? (I.E. What command specifically?)

psyklops 11-23-2002 03:18 AM

For the NVidia kernel driver I use tar -xvzf and for the GLX driver I used the same command. For the Linux Kernel I used rpm -Uvh for the modutils, kernel, adn kernel source.

Did you compile it? or just un-tar it? If you compiled it, what commands did you use?
Most importantly, did you do the "make install"? Were there any compile-time errors?

Please include details.
