Drive Size Reported Wrong After Re-size
Well i had a 230gb EXT3 drive in my old linux box it went down i installed in my XP box with EXT2IFS No prob read write. I converted to ext2 to resize and installed dual boot with kbuntu all works well execpt now on the original /dev/hdc1 i can read in kubuntu delete files etc but i cannot write i get this when i do a df
/dev/hdc1 187G 179G 0 100% /mnt which shows 187 total 179 free but 0 availble why when i boot into my windows i can read / write with no probs Please help |
Now ext does require some space for itself but would think it would be much over 5% as a default. What does the mount command show.

Well, if I read that run-on sentence correctly, I do believe that there was a filesystem conversion from ext3 to ext2 along the way. Going from ext2 to ext3 is trivially easy, but apparently going from ext3 to ext2 is fraught with issues.
That run-on sentence also had something in it about a resize, and I don't know what was being resized, but if it was a partition then perhaps the problem is that there is 50 megs or so of blank space on the disk now. I can't tell for sure because the description of the problem was only partly coherent, and I am unwilling to spend a great deal of time trying to parse meaning out of it. edit: I looked at ext3->ext2 again and it appears that there is only an issue if you are trying to do this on a mounted system drive. |
