Downloads are going to /tmp rather than /Desktop

I am using Debian Etch. Even though the Download box says that the data is going to Desktop, it is going to /tmp. My /home/Desktop can handle the volume of downloads, whereas /tmp fills up quickly.

Nothing special; just what etch automatically uses.

Are you using Firefox to download your files? If so, go to tools -> options -> main. click on the "Browse" button to the right of "Download to", and navigate to the directory where you want Firefox to put downloaded files.

This is for Firefox 3.x. Earlier versions might be slightly different but the process would be very similar.

As far as telling you one directory and actually using another, I don't know. Have you installed all of the updates?
