DNS: Named.conf don point to zone file

I realise i have been adding my last few zone files for my new domains .. without adding the entry in named.conf (to point to the zone file)

yet it still works..

which leads me to wonder... is it required (to update the named.conf) afterall?
I've updated mine already... but.. can't help but wonder...

Actually it does strike me as odd. Have you been editing the files manually or using some utility to manage Bind? In my experiance if a zone does not exist in the named.conf, there is no way Bind knows of its existence, hence doesn't load it. So maybe its possible you have multiple named.conf files? or possibly some other unusual situation.

Let me know of your findings, cause I'm curious also.

Are they both Bind servers? If so, do they both have separate named.conf files?
