Distrowatch.com descriptions

Does anyone know how reliable Distrowatch's "biographies" of each distribution are? i.e., the brief description you see at http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=[insert name here] . What I'm trying to figure out, for my research purposes, is whether those are Distrowatch's findings, or the makers touting their own products, in which case they are too unobjective to be paid attention to.

For the popularity statistics on their front page, those seem objective to me, being based on page hits, and presumably accurate--I doubt any of the distributions falsify their hit counts.
