disk stats not updating after deletion of file.. disk full

Arch Distro 7.1
Perl 5.8.8
Supermicro 1U Server
80GB ATA, 1GB RAM, P4 2.0GHz

Few Days ago the disk stated it was full..

Checked "df -h" and "/home" is 100% of 22GB..

So I ran "du -sh *" on "/home" after going threw
the dirs I found the offending Files.. Deleted them..
Now the disk still states "full 100%"..

Another problem...

Also, It seems after I delete the file and check
"df -h" the drive slowly fills back up.. I believe
this is a buffer writing to disk however I cannot
find it..

I have not rebooted and choose not to unless needed...
I have Killed all process that *could* write to the drive..
However no luck..

Any Ideas,

This may be a daft answer on my part but have you emptied the wastebasket?

It may be a hidden folder in your /home directory.

Hope this helps...

if you think something is still riting to home, you could look to see what has open files in /home... if X is running the list may be quite extensive.. with X shut down the list is much more manageable.

lsof /home
