Disk Quotas

Hi All

When i created my Linux server i set up a mounted filesystem so i could do disk quotas. I have a 120gb hard drive on my system and i want to allocate about 100gb for the users. Now i set each user up to have 2 gb of space in this folder that is mounted. The problem that i am having is the folder is only allowing 99mb combined for everyone. I was curious why that is happening and how to i change that?

Thanks

Providing more information in regards to configuration files and such always helps..

Quotas on Linux are per-filesystem, not per-folder. How did you try to set them up?

I followed this page in setting up my mount for quotas then i used the disk quota option under Webmin to set the users to 2gb but i dont see anywhere about filesystem quotas

I quote myself once again, linking us to the tutorial you followed only helps slightly as we don't know what your configs look like, what you potentially are doing wrong.. etc..

ok i just loaded the linux box so the config is default the way it is installed on Fedora core 3. I followed the tutorial then i installed webmin, fpse2002,pureftp, and then i set my qutoas in webmin.

I have done nothing else.

I take it your not going to be posting any configuration files

And why are you telling us you used webmin.. that doesn't help us. Can you post more details please of requota output and the actual files you edited from the howto? If not, we can't help you as we can't guess why its not doing what you want it to be doing..

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 108G 3.3G 100G 4% /
/dev/hda1 99M 99M 0 100% /boot
none 506M 0 506M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/hda1 99M 99M 0 100% /var/www/websites

this is where i believe my problem lies. The users are in the websites folder. which is apparently using the same space as the boot if i am reading this right.
I would like it to be using the 100G that vol00 is using. Sorry about all this i am still trying to learn.

Do not mount anything for directory /var/www/websites.
Check your /etc/fstab and comment out the line which starts with /var/www/websites.

Then thing is the users are actually websites. This is a web server and according to my book fedora finds the websites under /var/www
Is there a way to tell fedora to look somewhere else instead of that directory.
When the users login to their account over FTP or FPSE it takes them to /var/www/websites/'user folder' So if i dont mount /var/www/website then i cant put quotas on the user.
Again thanks for the help

If you unmount /var/www/websites it'll still be there, just without the files currently in it. So back them up, unmount it (you definately shouldn't have websites and /boot sharing space anyway) and restore it into the /var/www/websites directory which now resides on /

Or move the data to a partition on the bigger partition and create a symlink or edit your apache configuration to look for the directories in their new location..

I was thinking about just moving the folders to the 100g filesystem. The problem which i have (which probably isnt really a problem but i just cant think straight) is if i umount the /var/www/websites then i lose my quotas because it has to be mounted in order to have quotas, or am i totally wrong on that.
