Smile Disk Error 32

Hello! I am needing help using the UBCD download from the Linux Freedom Mirror site. I am getting a Disk Error 32 error. I have an XP Home system that gives me a stop error after the Windows Logo screen displays. When I run the UBCD it gives me a Disk 32 error when trying to load. How do I fix the faulty XP problem using the UBCD? Which utility? The UBCD seems to work ok, but sometimes I have to restart the computer.

Hi -

1. UBCD is all well and good - but it's light years from a full-featured distro like SuSE, Ubuntu or Fedora. If you're interested in "trying Linux", I would encourage you to try other distros as well.

2. I'm confused about your "disk error 32".

It sounds like:
a) you're running dual-boot (you've installed UBCD on one partition,
and you already had Windows/XP installed on another). Correct?

b) You're consistently getting a "disk error 32" on BOTH Windows
AND UBCD. The difference is that UBCD actually boots - but
Windows doesn't. Correct?

3. "Error 32" is typically associated with "bad CD".
You're booting from hard drive (and not CD/DVD). Correct?

4. I would encourage you to run diagnostics on your hard disk.
UBCD has "fdisk".
If you still have your Windows/XP install CD, you can go into "recovery mode" and run "chkdisk" and/or "scandisk".

'Hope that helps!
you're getting this error on BOTH

Cool

I figured it out. When I originally wrote the UBCD CD, I used a CD Writer with a faster speed [10X]. I decided to rewrite the CD using a 4X speed instead and the Disk Error 32 went away. And then I was able to begin understanding just how effective the UBCD disk really was.

The XP system is not stable and I am still getting a stop error of stop error:

0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x81a58113, 0XF96B07B0, 0xf96b04ac). Even the new UBCD wouldn't boot the harddrive via the next device option on the first screen. I was able to find a download ISO of the Recovery Console and ran Fixboot and Fixmbr as well as Chkdsk /r and I still continue to have the stop error. I am really close to giving up on it now and recommending a Rebuild. I hope I answered your questions indirectly at least.
