I am somewhat new to linux, i'm teaching myself and have learned alot so far. I installed the gcc packages that i found on my distro cd's, but i'm getting an error msg and not sure what to make of it. Here is what i'm getting:
loading cache ./config.cache
checking host system type...i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking wheather make sets ${MAKE}...yes
checking for gcc...gcc
checking for the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables
I was told that i needed to empty the config.cache file. I did cat config.cache but it did not print anything onscreen so there is nothing there. The program i am trying to load is freeamp if you need that. I am useing mandrake 8.1. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
this is exacly the problem that i have with gcc. i know i have the proper version because i got it from my distro's web site, and i'm pretty sure i have all the correct libs. i've looked on other forums, and no one seems to know the answer to this problem... could someone answer it? please??
