February 25, 2014, 1:44 PMIs the classic Linux desktop the best?

Datamation takes a look at why so many users seem to prefer the classic Linux desktop environments.
Based on the figures in LinuxQuestions' Members Choice Awards, 84% of Linux desktop users prefer a classic desktop. By contrast, innovations like GNOME 3 or Ubuntu's Unity lag far behind. Which raises the question: what accounts for the popularity of the classic desktop, and what are the implications for the design of graphical interfaces?
Good article.

Greetz
Personally I consider it rather wasteful to make some of the arbitrary changes that get made. In most cases it is better to build on what you have learned rather than start all over. I actually wish devs considered this more strongly than the never ending quest for "new and improved", which is often rather dubious.

I think open source and such brings enough people (rapidly expanding + new schools) that "we" can all get what we want, just use old distros?

I want a robot that does dishes . . .
