Difference between Windows,Linux and MAC OSX Drivers

In windows, normally the files to install a graphic driver are big, up to 100MB also possible.
But why in MAC OSX, it is just a small file with extension *.kext?

In the case of Windows, a lot of graphics (and other) "driver" installers also install utility programs, which are generally non-essential. That may account for the apparently larger size of Windows graphics drivers.
