I am not understanding the real difference in these two modes. Can someone explain or send me a link.

Thanks

Not modes they are desktop enviornments. They have some small little differences.

If you are worying about installing them I suggest both. Since no one can choose better than you. Since these desktop enviornments are equally good and euqally populer. If U want one of them install KDE.

Links : Kde.org and www.gnome.org
But you wont find much there.

But I must add that KDE is the default Desktop Enviornment on most distros. RedHat is the only onw I know that prefers Gnome.

By the way I like KDE while my brother preffers Gnome.

I some time wonder if richard stalman is the Gnome

Here's a link to a three part piece which discusses X11
desktop environments. I think that it would be a good
starting point for you.

<Opinion> My personal fave is KDE </Opinion>

UNIX/Linux operating systems are known to be stable and
reliable, but one of its unfortunate characteristics has
been the lack of a easy to use and homogeneous end-user
interface. Two Open Source projects, KDE and GNOME, are
addressing this problem with the development of user
friendly desktop environments. In a series of 3 articles
(here is the first part, and the next two will be
included in future CNL issues), we are going to explain
what a desktop environment is, what the differences and
similarities between KDE and GNOME are, and what the
internal architecture looks like.

I run Gnome2 on Red Hat 8.0 and it's an excellent Desktop Environment.

Between using these two desktops, I prefer Gnome. I never find myself in KDE rarely ever, actually don't remember last time I was in KDE to use it.

Oh and to add: This is a very common question here, if you search, you'll find many discussions on this sort of topic that might help you out.

I prefer Gnome also.

It seems more 'comfortable' using gnome then kde.
