Difference between GNOME and KDE


what is the difference between gnome and kde desktop environments?
present i'm using Gnome version 2.6 desktop environment.

what are the enhancements in KDE?

I think its mostly just a difference in preference really... I've used both and I prefer Gnome by far...

Gnome uses GTK and is completely free

KDE uses QT, and I believe you have to pay to use it for commercial purposes, but it's free to everybody else.

They're basically two different approaches to the same thing. Use whichever you happen to like best. In my case, neither

I think Gnome is slightly easier on system resources, whereas KDE is more "flashier" - however the difference bewteen the two has been the cause of numerous bitch-fights over the centuries...

KDE is more convinience than GNOME - it has shortcuts (hot keys) in every KDE app.

The best solution is to try both and pick the one you like. You can mix and match KDE and GNOME apps, so you won't miss out on much if your run either of the DEs.
