Dial Up Networking

I enjoyed a successful install of RHL8.0 on my Toshiba laptop yesterday (following video card conflicts with RHL7.2 - no Xwindows :-( ). I am unsure how to connect to the internet though using the Toshiba Software Modem AMR.

I had entered the Internet Configuration Wizard and had selected the modem option. An unsuccessful modem probe had followed and the generic modem configuration appeared in the network devices window. I had enabled the device and had entered in all of the relevant ISP details at the important spots.

I then proceeded to load a page in Mozilla and it said it had not found the page. I am wondering if there is a program that I should be running prior to an internet access attempt (like Windows Dial Up Networking - with a "Dial" button) or is it due to the fact that I need to get a driver form my modem.

I am aware of sites such as www.linmodem.org but I am unable to find my specific modem driver as Toshiba seems to have an anti-Linux support stance.

Try opening a console and typing su and then the root password when asked. Then try lspci and post the contents. Your modem should be listed.
