dhclient

I have a debian flavor of Linux and I am running the dhclient command. My inerface is eth0. I am running the following command as root:

dhclient eth0

and i keep getting the error:

-bash: dhclient: command not found

dhcpd is running. I am not sure why as root I am getting the error. Any ideas are welcomed!!

From the error message you mentioned it clearly says that the command not found which means that the relevant package which provides that command is not available.

dhcpd and dhclient are provided by two different packages. If I remember correctly dhclient is provided by dhcp-common, so you might want to check if that package is installed on the system.

As you said that dhcpd is running on this box which means this box is acting as a dhcp server. Question, why you want this box to act as dhcp server as well as the client, unless you have got two nics on the system with dhcp leasing addresses to another subnet other than the primary.

do a quick updatedb and then locate dhclient, it will tell you if it's on the system at all, chances are good you're missing the package as suggested but it's alos possible it's in a non-standard path.
