detecting expiring passwords

I am trying to find a perl script for linux that detects expiring or expired passwords and emails user with notification or warning. I know there are scripts out there was hoping someone would be able to post. No sense in re-inventing the wheel. I have shadow suite installed.

I am sure there is some way you can work with the PAM modules nicely (using PERL, python, etc.) to get this info. But another way to find it out is with chage.

Code:
chage -l user_name
Note that only root can list aging information for other users. You could parse the output and do some comparisons for the notification.
