defrag causes mandrake to wipe out system

after installing Mandrake with no problems under windows 98 I did a defrag with windows . I no longer could reboot anything. I had to reformat the C drive and reload windows from scatch. I have not tried manrake again until i get somekind of answer. Im running a 1.2 gb amd with 20 gb hardrive. Appreciate any sugestions.

well if mandrake is on its own partition, it should be fine, if you already reloaded windows and had mandrake using lilo or grub as the bootloader in the MBR, that is gone.. and you will have to use a boot disk to get back into mandrake and reinstall the boot loader to the MBR...
