Dealing with NTP

Hey guyz,

I got a solaris 10 machine and multiple linux machine.

The solaris 10 is pointing to a cluster ntp.
So i pointed my linux machine to that cluster IP.

but the linux machines ntp doesn't seem to be syncing with the clusters machine.

any ideas where i can start looking?

Many possibilities...

The first step in assessing what's happening would be to
check the syslog/daemon/messages log (what ever your distro
uses to log ntp's messages) ... check whether either of the
machines are using iptables/ipf to block NTP. Check how
much the clocks are out. Try running ntpdate from the
linux box as a one-off ....

Cheers,
Tink

For this... i did a trace.. on both sides.

The server is replying the client. but its says in the /var/log/messages that
no server suitable for synchronization is found

And what version of ntp is the cluster (whatever that may be, you
didn't elaborate ...) running?

Cheers,
Tink
