Can you mount it manually?

For example, run

sudo mkdir -p /media/usbstick

to make the directory /media/usbstick, then plug in your Data Traveler, wait a few seconds, and run

sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /media/usbstick

Let us know what errors, if any, you get.
