one or more floppies or some other media

you could always have the boot floppy and then mount a cdrom with /usr or some other stuff on it.

Damn, they got totally dismissed didn't they? I guess tom either hasn't gotten the message or doesn't want to respond.

You can make a lilo bootsplash like I was saying, but the "other way" seems to be beyond me. I have read things about changing the graphic on certain BIOS's so maybe that might be where you will want to start searching. I read it somewhere on The ScreenSavers website. Good luck, it was a long time ago. DavidPhillips created/is creating Davix (sort of an LFS I gather, not sure, ask him), he may be your best source for info.

let me know how it works out if you use lilo, I was leaning toward grub, but the script-fu looks cool. I guess it does not matter either way as far as that goes, both of them should give the same picture.

Tom's does not look much like a graphic.

Hi,

Thanks i'll check them all out. But one thing i'm not sure is that there's no real need for lilo in a mini-distro right? LILo is just used for displaying flash screens right?

I suppose it's easy to put lilo in a mini distro?

Thank you

lilo is the boot loader, it has the boot info so it can load the kernel, some people use loadlin. Space is at a premium. you can fit about 4 MB of data on a floppy if it's formatted for 1722k

I have not found a system that it would not work on, but it will depend on the bios

you may want a 1440k version just in case. Just remember, while it would be nice to get it all on one, and you should have a system you can use with just one disk, you should probably have more disks with more stuff on them.

the other option would be to just put the kernel at sector 0, cylinder 0

It will boot, but I am thinking what if you want to upgrade the kernel?

I suppose you could build the kernel and then rebuild the disk. Just some other stuff to work out
