I misread your X server command line (16:0 vs :16).
In fact your server is not running on port 6016, but on the standard 6000 one, sorry for the confusion.

By killing the server, you killed all the clients too. Are you sure the load is belonging to the X server ? This is unusual.

Also, "kill -9" is really a last resort command, always run first "kill <pid>".

It's unfortunate how widespread this mistake is ...

That may be a problem with the Mandriva 2006 distro X11 server, if it is what you mean.

If you read french, here is a couple of users with the same kind of problem, using this same distro:

ATI Video Driver?

Hi,

Are you using a laptop with an ATI video card?

I have Mandriva 2006 running on a laptop with an Intel video chipset. Works great. And I had a PC with an ATI card and I probably had that %100 CPU problem on it, but I changed it to a nVidia and it works great now. I have three other PCs that have an ATI card. One is running Mandriva 2006, and the two are running Mandrake 10.1. The Mandriva 2006 PC is having the 100% CPU problem. But the computer has been running for quite some time and this problem just started. No problems like this with Mandrake 10.1.
