Could not look up internet address for...

I get this error
Code:
Could not look up internet address for njclap.
This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly.
it may be possible to correct the problem by adding
njclap to the file /etc/hosts
everything operates correctly as far as i can tell. this happens on any system in this office onto which i install linux. mandrake 8.1 and Red Hat alike. The boxes are set up to pull down DHCP, and according to ifconfig eth0 they do successfully. i can browse the internet, post on this forum, and connect to other computers on the network via FTP. What's the deal?

Does your /etc/hosts
have a line for
127.0.0.1 localhost
?

Cheers,
Tink

try:
127.0.0.1 njclap localhost.localdomain localhost

I'm assuming that njclap is the hostname of the box you are on...

Hi blinker,
I have the same problem which njc got, but my hostname isnt static.
What if the hostname is dynamic?
I have a cable modem connection, and everytime I reboot my machine, I have a different hostname.
What do you think could be the solution?

Thanks in advance,
Vijay.
