Converting mp3 audio to mp2

Hi all,

I've been looking for quite a while now for a fairly simple Linux video editor that is able to incorporate still images - and I believe I've found what I'm looking for in the program MainActor. However, it doesn't appear to support mp3 format, and a post on their forums by one of their developers states that mp3 won't be supported.

What I'm wondering is, how can I convert mp3 audio to mp2 (which is supported) or mpa?

As an alternative, are there any 3rd party plugins available that will allow me to take mp3 input, ogg input, or wma input? Thanks!

Try this mp3ogg.

mp2, though is video not audio, mp3 is actually mpeg layer 3. where the mpeg layer 2 would be part of the video. there is an mpeg 2 format, which is used by DVD's which is also video.

It doesn't support ogg either.

It only supports mpeg audio - *.mp2, *.mpa, *.mpg2

It does also support taking the audio from a video clip, but it takes a while encoding a video and then just taking the audio from it ;/

Well you could convert the mp3 to a wav, using mpg123.
mpg123 -w output.wav input.mp3

Nearly everthing supports wav, but if not then convert it too an mpa, using mp2enc.

mp2enc -r 48000 -o output.mpa < input.wav

both these programs are in Gentoo.
