Converted to WindowMaker - Need Help!

Well I just switched over to WindowMaker under GNOME. I'm pretty sure I can figure it all out, but have not been able to find one option. I noticed that everyone gets rid of the stupid taskbar/panel that GNOME puts in.. how do I get rid of it and covert my menus into WM menus?

run switchdesk wmaker

then restart x

you don't want to use gnome and wmaker do you?

the menus are a snap to edit, drag button over and set the button text and the command

No, I want to dump GNOME. I see what I did wrong, I compiled it with the --gnome-enabled option....so I went back and recompiled it without any options.

When I tried before and after to use the switchdesk wmaker, it tells me WindowMaker is not installed?? I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck, same thing? What gives?

I followed the INSTALL file to a T..

./configure
./make
./make install
ldconfig

Path statements, config files and symbolic links are all as the INSTALL file requires. I don't get any errors. Do I maybe need to completely uninstall GNOME? I'd hate to do that yet, until this works, otherwise I'd be stuck with nothing.

:smash:

Well as an update, I removed GNOME entirely and recompiled WindowMaker again and still no luck. Everytime I try to run switchdesk, it tells me WindowMaker is not installed, and now I'm stuck using Links, until I can get this up.

I also tried installing the RPM, and no luck there either, same result. Somebody please help!

Themes

Okay, well I finally figured it out (I think). I wiped out everything that had to do with GNOME as stated above and recompiled WM. I found that I have to run 'wmaker.inst' for every user that wants to run WM. After I did this, it started right up without a hitch so far.

Next question which is a lot simplier is, I've noticed on a lot of the screen shots that the Xterm's are tranparent.. I can't find any option to make those terminals that way, I've tried themes that show it, but they never are that way when I load them up.

gnome-terminal

is one that has that feature. it has a menu with settings > preferences

you can choose transparent there.

also konsole has the same feature.

Eterm, the latest rxvt, wterm, aterm also support it

That figures - I don't believe I have any of those.. all I have is xterm.
