Convert video files to mpeg1/2video

I'm trying to convert some video files to mpegvideo using mencoder. I've tried convert wmv and raw video files. I get the same error, namely:

Quote:
Opening video decoder: [raw] RAW Uncompressed Video
VDec: vo config request - 300 x 200 (preferred csp: Planar YV12)
VDec: using Planar YV12 as output csp (no 0)
Movie-Aspect is 1.50:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
videocodec: libavcodec (300x200 fourcc=3267706d [mpg2])
[mpeg2video @ 0x84a4000]MPEG1/2 doesnt support 1000/1 fps
Could not open codec.
FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.
VDecoder init failed
Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x32315659.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/codecs.html!
==========================================================================
Exiting...
I think "MPEG1/2 doesnt support 1000/1 fps" is the significant part. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? What do I need to pass to mencoder to make it work? I've tried looking in the man file and in the other documentation but it's huge and I can't find anything.

Thanks in advance.

Yes I did.

I compiled mplayer myself with the complete codec package in the right dir. (I know it's good because I can play wmv and stuff)
