Controlling kernel device loading order?

I have a system that has both the Fusion MPT SCSI interface as well as a 3-Ware 9XXX SATA card. The problem is, if the 3-Ware drivers load before the Fusion MPT, it prevents the Fusion from initializing.

Currently I have the 3-ware built as a module and am loading it manually, but I'd prefer to have it hard-wired into the kernel for a recovery disk.

I've not been able to find any documentation on controling the loading order for kernel device drivers, so any help/pointers you can give would be appreciated.

Cheers

Distros do it differently - initscripts is the place to look.
rc.local maybe.
