Console, VESA VGA, Framebuffer Support Question

I have a Inspiron 9100 with a Radeon 9700 128 MB video card. I want my console text to appear 1024x768 60Hz. I compiled framebuffer support, VGA fonts and console logo. When I configure lilo to use vga=773 (http://linuxtipps.sourceforge.net/sh.../en/faq/89.htm) the screen goes blank until X Windows initiates. Any ideas?
