console resolution/display mode

I have Suse 9.3 Pro installed. At install time I had a 19 CRT Hooked up to it.
The font was very small. I replaced it with an LCD. Now It gives an error :
"CAN NOT DISPLAY THIS VIDEO MODE, CHANGE DISPLAY INPUT TO
1280x1024 @ 60Hz 46.29K/86.68Hz". It gives this error just as Linux
starts to boot, NOT when Xwin starts. How can I change this? I have
tried "rdev" command but I'm not sure that I used it correctly.
Commands I preformed:

# rdev
/dev/cciss/c0d0p3 /

# rdev -v /dev/cciss/c0d0p3 1

No output from second command. Did I do something wrong with the
command or am I way off base here?

thank you
Michael
