Question Connecting to the Internet

Can some one direct me to a site for conecting linux to the internet using kppp?

I am running RedHat 6.0. I have set up everything correctly according to the kppp help files and I still can not connect to the internet. Does anyone have any insight?

I have edited my resolv.conf file to add the Primary and Secondary IP adresses of the servers I am trying to connect to. I on the other hand have not edited the pap-secrets file because my file outline does not look like anything I have read.
any help would be appreciated.

when you run kppp try this in a terminal as root

tail -f /var/log/messages

look for the error generated if any

run kppp

select new new from account setup

put Name of Account and add phone number,
and select script based authentication

click IP

it should say dhcp

click gateway

you should have default gateway

DNS automatic

Login Script page

click button and select send

type login and hit add # note this is necessary for some isp's to start communication and is not necessary for some others.

select expect

type ame: or ogin: and hit add

you will have to try this because some use name and some use login

select send

type yourusername and hit add

select expect and type ord:

hit add

select send

type yourpassword and hit add

try to connect now.

if this don't work you need to do some more advanced troubleshooting

edit /etc/syslog.conf

add these lines

local2.* /var/log/ppp
daemon.* /var/log/ppp

type this

touch /var/log/ppp

then this

killall -1 syslogd

then tail -f /var/log/ppp

then run kppp and look at the output of the tail -f to see whats happening, if you can't get it from all this post something that will explain the problem.

and the errors.

IMPORTANT

when you are through doing this

edit /etc/syslog.conf and remove the two lines you added

rm /var/log/ppp

killall -1 syslogd

Not to mention that RH 6.0 is a bit old now...
