I have just installed Red Hat Linux 7.1 and need help with drivers for my sound card, modem, and setting up my ethernet card. I have an H.P. Pavilion model 8562 with a rockwell riptide combo card listed on both the audio card and a modem. Are there any drivers available for these? I tried to set my ethernet card (HP10/100 baseT lan adapter) using the dhcp option, but when booting, it fails. This is the first time I have used Linux and need help badly!!!

well i have jsut installed on the hp pavillion 8545 which has a riptide card also and, no it won;t work in linux. tis a winmodem card (mine wouldn;t work in windows. hp provided a dud driver for it. when i called the support line they said there was a fixed driver that had to be used.............i was supposed to download it from their website :-) )

neway, i suggest getting a different modem, an externel one is the easiest.

the sound card is also a bit naf as well so i didn;t bother attempting it. i already had a sb live value card which is working. just fork out the £60 (or what ever dollars it costs) for one of the newer sb live cards or the other sb cards. most work really well in linux.

fraid i know nothing bout lan cards though but if it is a isa card you might need to use the isapnp tools (look in the how-tos) or if it is a pci one it might not work at all (you would have to use the pciutils).
