Configuring peripherals from command line

Having used linux for 2 years now from the comfort of GNOME, I wish to learn the real linux, the flesh behind the skin.

So I am now running a sole xterm window with sawfish, without GNOME or KDE.

This entails having to reconfigure everything, including changing the orientation of my mouse to left handed.

I can acess redhat-configure-mouse to change the type of mouse, but I want to do everything from the command line: not from a gui.

Can anybody help me ?

Regards,
Ahsan
