I'm trying to try out Kwort, but having some trouble booting it after the install. It comes with LILO, which I have never used, and have no interest in learning, so I'm trying to get GRUB to load it. I installed Kwort 2.4 from a cd I burned, and the install went smoothly. When asked what to do for a boot loader, I opted to put it off. I already have GRUB on the machine, and I setup Kwort to use the partition I have GRUB rooted to as it's /boot.
The installer put these files in the partition:
config (a link to config-2.6.24.3)
config-2.6.24.3
vmlinuz (a link to vmlinuz-2.6.24.3)
vmlinuz-2.6.24.3
System.map (a link to System-2.6.24.3.map)
System-2.6.24.3.map
diag1.img (a little diagnostics system)
when I put this in my menu.lst:
title Kwort
root (hd0,6) #/ for Kwort install
kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/hda7
initrd /{ANYTHING}
I get a file not found.
without the root (hd0,6) line, I get a no configuration file message
After I tried all of the file Kwort installed, I tracked down bzImage from the installation CD, and tried that. Also no good.
I have also tried with no initrd specified, same results.
Hopefully, I'm just missing some really obvious step.
If there is more info I can provide, please just ask.
Put the (hd0,6) in the path specification for both the kernel and initrd.
Personally I leave the grub root specification as where grub actually exists - makes sense logically.
I really need to reread posts for clarity before pushing that button.
/dev/hda6 is my /boot partition, with both the kernel and grub installed there.
Whether I specify that (hd0,5) is grub's root or not, and whether I specify that the kernel is located at (hd0,5)/vmlinuz or just /vmlinuz, and whether I specify the initrd as (hd0,5)/{ANYTHING} or /{ANYTHING}, I get a message about no configuration found, and have to press the power button to turn off the machine.
I have also tried with no initrd in the grub entry.
It seems like there should be an initrd at the root level of that partition, with vmlinuz. None of the file there seems to be the initrd.
