The Mail program (the one that comes with all *NIX's, where the name is just plain 'mail') thinks my email address is (myusername)@(mycomputer'shostname), which it obviously isn't. I searched google and the manpages, but couldn't find anything. Help!
Can you explain what you are trying to do. In terms of local host the address is correct since you are are a user on the system which you named. Many distros use exim as the MTA.
What application are you using to collect mail eg KMail? If you are just collecting mail from an isp mail account with an app like KMail then you would set it up to collect the mail from the ISP smtp address which they would give you in the form mail.isp_name.com and send mail via the pop3 in the same address format. There are also other methods such as setting up your own email server with smtp and pop3 and then using fetchmail to collect the mail from the isp and then collect the mail from your own email server.
