Unhappy Completely new, need help with what distribution to use

Hi:

1st time using linux EVER. I am trying to figure out what version I should use for my purpose.

1. Print server for a Brother Laser fax/copy/printer
2. Print server for a Eltron 2543 label printer (we ship stuff, hence the label printer)
3. Group File sharing. Nothing major, just documents, excell, word, etc.
If I think of anythign else I'll post it

I'd also like to run some office type applications, Not that I am going to, but just in case I need to it would be nice to have the option as well as web browsing for updates and such.

1 more thing. I need to be able to remote control this box from my desk, (something like PC Anywhere ype of thing) so I dont have to put up a monitor, mouse and keyboard for it.

Now the machine:

I came across 2 Dell Optisomething and am putting them together in one machine so the final machine will have the following:

PIII 667 (too bad its not a dual CPU board)
256 megs ram
2 40 gig maxtor hdd, 1 for OS, 1 for Data I figure, but I am open to other suggestions
Plus all the normal stuff.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I would suggest debian, because its very good for server purposes and shuld run well on your hardware, but be warned debian is not exactly a newbie-distro. The sites www.distrowatch.com and www.zegeniestudios.net are also quite interesting if your serching for the perfect distro

So would you say that the machine configuration is ok for what I am trying to do. 1 drive for the os and the other for storage? I am downloading a DVD image right now, but 2 gigs at 52k a second is going to take a while. Good thing I pay $112 a month for satellite *high speed* internet service.

You probably wont need the whole 40 gigs of one hd for the os, 10 gigs should be more then enough for the root partition, put since you want a server you'll probably need to set /var to a seperate big partition as well as /home, but this shuold be documented in the debian guide
