Command to find the flavor of linux


Hi guys,

I just wanted to know whether there is any command in linux thet could tell me which flavor of linux i am using?
We are trying to develop an application that can change its behaviour based on the flavor its running (RedHat, Debian and Slack for now)

set

set | grep MACHTYPE
At least that works in mandriva

usually some of these will work:
