They're not talking about accessing a website without a browser. They're asking how to create a website that will provide a text-based interface inside the browser.

Which is what half the people who've replied to this thread don't appear to understand...
I was going for something more like Hitch hikers guide.
Well if you want text displayed like the TV version of the guide here's something to get you started: http://megaflexdestiny.net/bits/the_guide/
It's something I threw together about a year ago for no specific purpose. Could probably be cleaned up a lot. Also I never got around to making the text move up the page. IIRC the text is taken from an article that was on http://news.bbc.co.uk at the time.
suicidle_p0ptart...
if you want to make a command based website for general users...the problem consist in the web browser not in the website itself...
Because the browser is the client....then the client is used to send commands to the website.
So the option you have is to make a browser not a website
Just as you use Ctrl+F to search in Firefox for text in a web page you could(I think :P) implement a key combination in a browser to search for images in a website that have a title or alt that contains john ..
SO the problem in in the browser (if you try something general)
He wants the website to look like a terminal, not access the website through a terminal!
There are a million ways to do it... flash, php, javascript... maybe even just with plain html. All you need is an entry box and if/else loops, then you can either use a dynamic element or just just refresh a frame with the output... literally a million ways.
