Clueless

I have RH 7.2 running(download version). About a week ago, is started to hang, while I was surfing the net. Until then, I had no problems. I'm guessing it's my CPU, but I wont swear. If you encountered this before, let me know.

I've seen this a few times on Red Hat 7.1 running Netscape.
I was using a DSL line. I had to open a terminal and kill netscape
and everything started working again.

when it hangs, do you have to reboot or is it just the browser that hangs ? if you can't do anything in X, can you perform a ctrl-alt-backspace to kill X and to restart it ?

It hangs everything I run in X, nothing will work. After a 1/2 hour, maybe it will restart, but no sooner.

To limit it to hardware or not, what's the video card? Also, if you leave it in runlevel 3, i.e. with X not running, does this lockup happen at all? Is there anything wrong with the other hardware of the box. I was having a hell of a time with a dualie PPro machine for a month until I realized the CPU fans weren't spinning.

Is this thing an athlon with an AGP card? There's a now infamous memory paging bug associated with that combo, but usually there's a hard slowdown before it strikes.

Basically, what are the specs on the crate, front to back and did this happen under any other OS?

Luck,

Finegan
