Chrome OS and Ubuntu Remix

With all of the hype regarding Chrome OS I'm wondering how is it better than something like Ubuntu Remix which is, as far as I understand, designed to do the same thing?

Is Chrome OS going to be another Linux Distro or is it simply based on the Linux Kernel and that's where the similarity ends?

Will it have functionality that Remix lacks?

So Chrome OS is a latter-day Web TV.

OK.

Chrome IS fast, no doubt, but the version I'm running has a LOT of broken features in it. One of the features that is broken is the feature that lets me tell Google about bugs.

My understanding is that Chrome OS is, in fact, Open Source. I also already store much of my data on Google Docs and Ubuntu One.

How is it that Chrome spies on the user?
