Chinese support in Mandrake 8.1 & 8.2
Hi is there anybody out there who have any knowledge of Chinese support in Linux and OpenOffice ?
The Chinese support sucks in Linux and OpenOffice realy bad.....
We are trying to get the Chinese to install Linux, but the Chinese support in Linux & OpenOffice is light years behind that of Windoze ( I hate Windoze ).
We have some systems which is manly English, but also want to input Chinese, and that is realy shit that you need dual boot just if you need to write in Chinese, you have to boot to Windoze shit, also only one font that OpenOffice or Star office can use is SimSun you can install as many as you like, but OpenOffice or Star Ofice will not find them..

You should be able to view chinese with MDK 8.1 8.2.
To input chinese, you need to check out
http://xcin.linux.org.tw/
Chinese Linux distro:
check out:
http://cle.linux.org.tw
or
http://linpus.com.tw/
Above are Traditional Chinese based
For simplified Chinese, I think there is one called
RedFlag
http://www.redflag-linux.com/
Personally I still think Chinese Windows is much easier to use.........

Hi Twk, you are right even the English Windoze 2000 is 100 times easier to use than Linuxs Chinese input support, now here it is Linux want so bad to get into the Chinese market, but with this poor input I don't think it will only in small, I'm using Linux in English ( with the poor Chinese Input ) and in English no complaint 100 times better than Windoze, but if you need the Chinese input, well then reboot to Windoze, much better, but what a shit to have to reboot evrytime you need to write something in Chinese. I'm not Chinese but I can write in Chinese well not 100% but just for addrasses, and short letters, in Windoze it is so easy only one click and you have Chinese input and one click you are back to English.
I have looked at the Chinese sites supporting Linux, and there is nothing better than I have already.
But have you tried to use it in OpenOffice ? that is totally disaster, the only place where is sort of OK is in Mozilla E-mail.

Redhat Chinese support is awesome,
maybe you should change distributions.
I've already done 12 Chinese installations and people over here are very, very, very happy with them.

Hi zLinux , can yo have an English installation and the use Chiese input ?
You know in Mandrake 8.1 you could, but in Mandrake 8.2 you can not, so it looks to me like Mandrake have gone back in time, just like Micro$oft when ever they come out with a new version always something missing, so now we have to go back to MD 8.1 or Redhat 7.3.. I have already installed some 25 systems, and now have to re-install, or perhaps Linux should change MD 8.2 so you can use Chinese in the English installation as long you have installed ycbx it works in 8.1.

Hi zLinux well thanks, but this I know very well, and that is not the issue, the Issue is if Linux ( Including RedHat ) is installed in English, and then after added the Chinese Suppport ( linux is Still in English ) then you can not input Chinese even all the Chinese have been installed without first changing the local language, and that is no good, and then still there is missing fonts.
I want Linux in 100% English, but with added Chinese input Support.

yeah, I know that if you install Chinese distros, the Chinese input problem will be solved. For me, I do most of my work in English and I don't use/like RH, I just want Chinese input method so I can input Chinese when I want. Install/config xcin and i18n tools is a pain.

zLinux, you are right if you install it in 100% Chinese it works 100%, but if you install in English, and then try to input in Chinese it is no good. in Windoze2K you just click in the small icom EN or CH and it works just like it was installed in Chinese..
