Checking dvd integrity

I bought a dvd which has more than 50 video files (flv format). How can I check in linux if all the files are ok and dvd is not having any errors, without playing each and every video?

Thanks in advance.

You can scan the dvd for sectors that can't be read, for example you can use:

Thanks for the info. I am instaling it now.

One simple method I think works is simply copying all files to a temporary folder on hard disk. If there are any read errors they will show up. The hard disk files can later be deleted.

Can I use dd command for this (without copying or copying to null device) as follows?

dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/dev/null bs=1M

Yeah, dd should report an error if it can't read the disk.

If you had a checksum for the DVD -- such as an MD5 sum -- you could check that. It would check the actual data, not just that the blocks are readable as dd does.

@catkin: That is right but there was no checksum of the dvd available. Probably, it should be mandatory for companies selling CD/DVDs to provide checksum along with the cd/dvd, or at least on their website. Ideally, on every cd sold, there should be a simple application in root folder which would check the checksum on command.
