"Cheating" Linux - Enabling region free DVD without flashing DVD drive.

Hi,

How to enable Linux (Slackware) to play region coded DVD without flashing the DVD drive's firmware?

In Windows, there is this excellent (..and costly) program called DVD RegionFree+CSS which is a special driver which runs in the background. When inserting any region coded DVDs, this program will by pass the region checks and enables one to play region coded dvds without flashing DVD drive's firmware nor reduce the region change counter.

Are there any ways in Linux to do that too? Please advise. Apparantly, if I insert any region coded dvd and runs it in MPLayer, it will not run :(

PS: If mods feels that this question may violate any laws, please delete this thread. Thanks.

You need libdvdcss -- Slackware packages here.

Have you installed the Mplayer codecs? When you say "it won't run", what exact error messages are you getting?

After disc is inserted, you right click MPlayer and select PLAY DVD (..or something similiar. Can't exactly remember), you wait a moment while the disc is being accessed; but nothing happens.
