changing host and domain name?
my hostname/domainname is currently localhost/localdomain. How do I change that?

It will vary slightly from distro to distro, but mine is in /etc/conf.d/hostname and /etc/conf.d/dnsdomainname for gentoo
verify that /etc/hosts has the entry
127.0.0.1 hostname

Buddy, thats something that changes from one distro to another. I always do this:
hostname "new.name.here" //without the ""
and then I go to /etc/hosts an change the line that mucicman_ace say to you

changing hostname
on fedora core, the hostname command won't do it permanently (goes away after reboot).
Try editing /etc/sysconfig/network
|
