changed hostname now problems

I am trying to network my linux machine with a windows Me machine. My host name is now localhost.localdomain and I can't seem to connect to it from the ME machine. I tried //localhost/user and //localhost.localdomain/[user], but to no avail so I thought maybe my hostname is bad because my router doens't pick up a hostname from me.

1. I guess there are two questions, am I somehow hiding my hostname from the network?

2. Why when I change my hostname, can I not open programs until I change it back to its original settings?

I do have samba daemons runnings

What do you have for your computers name in your samba config file? That is what you need to use, or use just your IP

ME didn't like the idea of the ip, but what name in the config do you mean? The server string?
