Change Mainboard

Hi all

I must change my Mainboard, because the condensers are gone. When I change to a new mainboard, it is possible that my system does`t run? Or are all Mainboard drivers generally in the Kernel?

The previous board was a nforce2, the new has a kt400 chipset.

I`ve got a multiboot with debian, redhat, xandros. Bootmanager lilo

Unless you've reconfigured your kernel, you should find that most mainboards will work. It's always worth check the hardware compatibility lists for you distributions, though.

One problem that you may come across is if you're changing the processor; the processor version needs to be at least call-compatible with whatever kernel you're using (e.g. a 386 kernel will run on any Intel-compatible CPU from a 386 upwards but a 486 kernel won't run on a 386 processor). If you're keeping the same CPU then I wouldn't expect any major problems.

Great.. thanks for your information.

The CPU are the same, and I use the kernels from the distributors. It looks good :)
