this is a stupid question but how do you get the cdrom icon to stay on the desktop all the time?, so you can just double click on and mount the cdrom.i want to do this in redhat 9.
thank you
What window manager/desktop environment are you using? For kde there should be an option when you right click on the desktop to create a new cdrom device, then just specify the appropriate device and mountpoint, such as /dev/cdrom and /mnt/cdrom.
I think automount does this automatically in RedHat. Once you place a CD in the drive, Automount detects it and mounts it, and thats when the Icon appears on your desktop. I guess I'm not understanding what you're trying to do? You want an Icon to be on your desktop even if there is no CD in the drive?
