I use cdogg to rip all my cds, but I was tired of having to mess with the program everytime I wanted to rip a cd, so I wrote a little bash script that queries the cddb database, automatically assumes that the first result is correct, and then starts to rip in directories based on artist and cd information.

I've been told by quite a few of my friends that they've found this silly little bash script extrememly handy, and that I should share it, so here . Enjoy.

The code itself is very simple ( doesn't check for errors and is very rigid as to how directories are named ) so if you've got any improvements please contact me via AIM ( goofyheadedpunk ) or by email ( goofyheadedpunk@gmail.com... seeing a trend? ).

It's not all that extraordinary, but I don't like gui ripping tools and I'm not too fond of constant repetative tasks. I hope someone else finds this useful too.

I noticed you're using cdogg / cdmp3. I'm just curious why you chose those packages. I always try to avoid tools that attempt to play several roles because they tend to have mediocre performance at each task. But I'm not saying that's the case with cdogg.. I don't know much about it. In fact, I'm just now hearing about it for the first time. Is there a reason you chose cdogg over cdparanoia and cdda2wav?
