CD-rom as an option in the GRUB meny

If you have a linux live-eval CD or Knoppix it would be handy to boot directly from GRUB. Then you don´t have to open BIOS and change the boot-sequence every time.
If this is possible what to write in the Grub menu.lst for example:

Your CD-rom or DVD is located on the secondary slave ide.

I have SUSE 9.2 but the procedure is most likely the same for all Linux distributions, or is it?

No, its not because your cd-rom/dvd-rom is not in /boot/grub/device.map

It is possible to boot from a floppy in GRUB, so it would be logical to be able to boot also from the CD.
In my device.map are now:

(hd0). /dev/hda
(hd1). /dev/hdb
(fd0). /dev/fd0

What if I add (hd3). /dev/dvdrecorder to that list, where (hd3) is my second slave and /dev/dvdrecorder is my DVD as listed in My Computer (Suse) just as the floppy is listed as (dev/fd0)

But it is a little dangerous to experiment on your own, I tried a few other settings and Suse did not boot so had to change them back with Knoppix.

See http://grub.enbug.org/GrubLegacy on using SBM from Grub to boot a CDrom. Later on that page shows how to create a grub boot floppy with a filesystem, which you can put SBM on. Really works!
