cannot create symlinkoor change permission in a mounted fat32 drive

here's the line fstab file
Code:
/dev/hda6 /windows/D vfat users,gid=users,exec,umask=0002,iocharset=utf8 0 0
this happens even if i'm logged in as root. It would rock if someone would help me fix this because then i could actually install come of the application in there to save some space in my / drive.

thanks.

PS. if it helps, i was trying to install matlab 7.

FAT 32 filesystems do not support symlinks or permissions/ownership. Therefore, being unable to create them should not be surprising.
